Check it before you post it (5/10/2022)
I’m a stickler for correct spelling and grammar and I often shake my head when I see a big mistake that someone has made. Of course, I goof up myself sometimes, but I check my writing and correct the errors before it gets posted. And when in doubt about the correct spelling, I do my research and with all the tools available these days that is an easy thing to do.
Unfortunately, many people don’t seem to be able to spell basic word correctly and they don’t use the spellchecker either.
On a daily basis I see posts on social media, comments on articles on news sites that contain the most ridiculous errors. Words like: coutch, dinning table, aloud (allowed), rod (wrought) iron, really make me shake my head. Recently I saw a post of someone trying to rehome a dotson (dachshund).
Help us if you're in a hurry (5/6/2022)
It was a stormy day and broken tree limbs were all over the place when I drove home from work.
For a reason I don’t remember I took a different route and I soon wish that I hadn’t. A big tree branch has snapped off and was lying across the road at a 90-degree angle.
Some drivers quickly turn around and others just stopped at the obstacle. A gentleman in a BMW was just in front of me and when I got out of my car I could see him pounding the steering wheel with both hands
A few others got out of their vehicles as well and together we assessed the situation. It was big limb and heave for sure. But the six of us should be able to move it out of the way. It was worth a try, anyway. Better than waiting for official help which could be away for quite a while.
No appreciation from the church (5/4/2022)
About twenty years ago I started going to one of the local churches. Not because I’m a deeply religious person but the true reason was that I needed some supportive people in my life.
My marriage was not a success, to put it mildly, and I was living under pressure with no one to talk to.
I met some very friendly people who made me feel welcome and the services provided the warmth and inspiration that I was looking for.
After a while I felt that I should contribute to this community, and I went to see one of the pastors. I offered to make a web site that could be not only a source of information for members but also could help spread the word and attract people who were unfamiliar with the church.
The pastor agreed that it was a great idea and he promised to help me get all the necessary information.
I can't stand country music anymore (5/1/2022)
We used to live a few miles away from a Dairy Queen and occasionally my wife and I would treat ourselves to something good. She would usually get a blizzard and I got a banana split. And if we were lucky the comfortable leather armchairs were available.
The whole experience was overshadowed to some degree by the music coming from the ceiling speakers. It seems the manager was a fan of country music and had tuned in to a station specializing in contemporary country.
It was not very loud, but as far as I’m concerned country music is too loud at any volume. In other words: I can’t stand it.
And this is coming from someone who used to listen to it all the time, but that was decades ago. I even made a trip to Nashville and enjoyed performances of great artists in the Grand Ole Opry. I also have fond memories of concerts by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and others.
